Frequently Asked Questions
What's the difference between Yoga & Pilates?
Yoga is an entire Philosophy, and it’s beginnings were developed by the Indus-Sarasvati civilisation in Northern India over 5, 000 years ago. The word Yoga was mentioned in the oldest sacred texts; The Rig Veda. There are those who believe Yoga could date back even further to Kemet (Egypt) and more research is required to support this.
Pilates (originally called “Contrology”) was developed nearly 100 years ago by a man called Joseph Pilates who had a number of health issues as a child, including Asthma & Rickets. Originally comprised of 34 precise & controlled movements, Joseph Pilates was able to overcome his health issues & became an accomplished gymnast, skier & boxer by the time he was an adult.
What is POP Pilates?
POP Pilates is an incredible fusion of ab-chiseling and total body defining moves choreographed to upbeat pop music. This intense, mat-based workout challenges you to rhythmically flow from one exercise to the next, developing a rock solid core while leaving no muscle untouched. This format takes Classical Pilates to the next level like you've never seen before.
While POP Pilates moves all originate from Classical Pilates, the class design, relationship with music, sequencing and reps, differ from Reformer and traditional mat classes. The fundamentals of breathing, core engagement and powerhouse-based movements are shared. However, the emphasis on moving to the beat of pop music is what makes POP Pilates so unique.
